Who Are the Inductees?

This year’s inductees represent a diverse array of industries and achievements, each leaving an indelible mark on Alabama’s business scene:

  • Rob O. Burton hails from Birmingham and is the current CEO of Hoar Holdings. His journey in business began at a young age of just 13 when he started working in the family business. With a solid education from Auburn University in building science, his leadership has propelled Hoar Holdings to new heights.

His educational background is also from Auburn University, and he has played pivotal roles in founding and leading the Birmingham Recovery Center and Longleaf Wellness and Recovery Centers.
  • Dr. Marnix E. Heersink from Dothan is a co-founder of Eye Center South. His academic journey led him to earn both his bachelor’s and medical degrees from the University of Western Ontario. He has a dedicated focus on research studies alongside his work with Trinity Research Group.
  • Thomas H. Lowder, another prominent figure from Birmingham, formerly chaired and was the CEO of Colonial Properties Trust. A graduate of Auburn University, he took Colonial Properties public in 1993, significantly influencing Alabama’s real estate market.

With a bachelor’s degree from the University of the South and an MBA from the University of Virginia, he led the company as CEO from 1991 until his retirement in 2016, creating a legacy of excellence in the beverage industry.
  • Last but certainly not least, we have Nick L. Saban from Tuscaloosa. Known as a legendary retired football coach for the University of Alabama, Saban’s tenure from 2007 until 2023 is celebrated for leading the Crimson Tide to a staggering six championship titles.
