Absentee Ballot Voting Now Open in Huntsville

Huntsville, Ala. – If you’re planning on participating in the upcoming municipal elections on August 27, good news! Absentee ballot voting is officially open, allowing those who may not be able to make it to the polls to cast their votes.

Important Dates to Keep in Mind

The City Clerk’s Office is ready to accept absentee applications by mail until 5 p.m. on Tuesday, August 20. For those who prefer to apply for absentee ballots in person, the last day to do so is August 22. If you need an emergency absentee ballot, make sure to apply by August 26.

Who Can Vote Absentee?

Absentee ballot voting in Huntsville is available to a variety of voters, including:

  • Individuals who will be absent on election day
  • Those who are ill or have a physical disability that prevents them from visiting polling places
  • Registered Alabama voters temporarily living outside their home county, such as military members, students, or their family members
  • Election officials or poll watchers assigned to different polling locations
  • Individuals who work shifts of 10 hours or more that coincide with polling hours

What’s on the Ballot?

This election is set to fill two seats on the Huntsville City Council and two on the Huntsville City Schools Board of Education. Here’s a quick peek at the candidates:

City Council Candidates

  • District 1: Devyn S. Keith, Reggie McKenzie, and Michelle Watkins
  • District 5: Kim Caudle Lewis and John Meredith

Board of Education Candidates

  • District 1: Will Culver, Claudia Harris, Chaundra M. Jones, and Pat King
