HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — Exciting news for space enthusiasts and community members alike! The U.S. Space & Rocket Center is all set to host a delightful gathering to celebrate the much-anticipated return of the Pathfinder shuttle orbiter. Mark your calendars for Thursday, Oct. 24, from 5 to 7:30 p.m. for the event, which is dubbed Biergarten Under the Shuttle.

What to Expect at the Event

Dr. Kimberly Robinson, the CEO and Executive Director of the Rocket Center, alongside Huntsville’s own astronaut, Dr. Jan Davis, will be sharing some inspiring words during the event. This gathering offers a unique opportunity to hear from those who are deeply connected to the space industry.

The event will take place under the impressive full space shuttle stack in Shuttle Park, creating a backdrop that’s both awe-inspiring and unforgettable. Guests can take the chance to indulge in a comprehensive Biergarten menu that features delicious German dishes and a selection of beverages available for purchase. Whether you’re looking to feast on bratwurst or sip on a refreshing beer, there’s something to suit everyone’s taste!

Pathfinder’s Journey

So, what’s the story behind the Pathfinder shuttle orbiter? Well, it has an illustrious history! After more than 30 years exposed to the elements, the Rocket Center decided it was time for a spruce-up, and they removed the orbiter for restoration in 2021. Fast forward to September, when the orbiter was lifted back into its rightful spot, ready to inspire a new generation of space lovers!

Originally erected at the Rocket Center in 1988, the Pathfinder shuttle stack was developed by NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center. It played a critical role as a heavy-lift article, helping test procedures for what we all know as the Space Transportation System, or the space shuttle. It’s fascinating to see how far we’ve come in the realm of space exploration!

Explore Rocket Park

But the fun doesn’t stop at the shuttle orbiter! Guests attending the event are also invited to explore the newly completed Rocket Park. Rocket Park has been designed to honor space history, featuring Rocket Row that showcases five historic rockets, all meticulously restored and remounted. Visitors can marvel at the engine section of the SLS core stage Pathfinder, which adds a contemporary twist to the park.

The park pays tribute to the tireless efforts of the more than 21,000 employees from the Marshall Space Flight Center. The Marshall Retirees Association’s Space Exploration Wall of Honor is prominently displayed, reminding us all of the invaluable contributions made to our understanding of space.

Get in on the Action!

This celebration offers a wonderful opportunity not just to appreciate space exploration but to connect with fellow community members who share a passion for the cosmos. Be sure to check out the U.S. Space & Rocket Center’s website for further details about the event and any additional activities planned for the evening.

So, whether you’re a fan of tasty treats, a lover of rockets, or just someone who enjoys great company, this event is for you! Don’t miss out on this special occasion to celebrate the return of the Pathfinder shuttle orbiter and enjoy an evening filled with fun.
