Chandler Drouin Awakens After Hit-and-Run Incident
Huntsville, Alabama – There’s exciting news coming from the Drouin family! After a tough week filled with worry and uncertainty, Chandler Drouin, a cross-country runner at Grissom High School, is now awake and on the mend after suffering serious injuries in a hit-and-run accident.
Chandler’s mother, Nicole Drouin, took to social media to share the uplifting news early Wednesday. She expressed her heartfelt gratitude for the support they have received during this challenging time. “Time seems to stand still and yet also it is a blink of an eye,” she wrote, reflecting on the whirlwind of emotions they have experienced over the past week since Chandler was injured.
Nicole continued, “One week since Alex called saying he was on his way to the hospital and that Chandler was hit by a car and broke his leg. So many unknowns as we walk this path but it is clear to see God’s hand in it all.” Her words hit home for many who have walked a similar road.
A Steady Recovery
Chandler, who suffered a broken tibia in the accident, has made remarkable strides in his recovery. According to Nicole’s update, he is now awake, talking, and breathing independently. He’s even eating and has begun physical therapy! The doctors and nurses working with Chandler have been praised for their exceptional care, helping him navigate this difficult chapter.
It’s incredible to see Chandler able to bear weight on his leg and start the process of recovery. “We are thrilled to head to the next step. It will still be a long road but we are happy to be able to navigate with Chandler here!” Nicole shared. While Chandler isn’t quite ready for visitors just yet, his family continues to appreciate the ongoing prayers and support from their community.
The Community’s Support
The outpouring of support from family, friends, and local residents has provided comfort during this turbulent time. Nicole expressed deep gratitude for everyone who has reached out to provide encouragement, not just for Chandler but also for his cross-country teammates who are feeling the impact of the accident. The bonds forged on the track are proving to be unbreakable and supportive.
Nicole’s heartfelt message included a friendly reminder for all parents: “Hug your ornery, headphone-wearing, won’t smile for a picture but definitely willing to eat you out of house and home, teenagers (and kids). Even on the hard days they are still blessings from above.” This reflection resonates deeply with those who cherish their own children, reminding everyone to appreciate the little moments amidst the chaos of daily life.
