Improving Downtown Parking Chaos
Huntsville is gearing up for a solution to its downtown parking problems with a new plan that promises to ease congestion and improve access near the popular Big Spring Park. The City Council recently approved a new agreement that marks a significant step for the CityCentre mixed-use project, set to reshape the downtown landscape.
New Parking Structure Underway
The approved plan involves the construction of a six-level parking deck that will offer up to 430 parking spaces. This facility will be strategically located next to the forthcoming Moxy Hotel and the existing AC Hotel Huntsville Downtown, which is part of the Marriott hotel chain.
Funding the Project
The financial structure of this endeavor includes a commitment from the city to cover about $11 million of the construction costs, while the developer, City Centre IV LLC, will contribute $3 million. This partnership is geared towards ensuring downtown Huntsville can accommodate an increasing number of visitors and residents.
How It Will Work
In a bid to maximize usage, the agreement states that the city will lease approximately half of the parking spaces, distributing up to 110 spaces each to both the AC Hotel and Moxy. This arrangement will leave a net of 210 open parking slots available for public use, providing a much-needed relief to those visiting the downtown area.
