Food Safety Inspections Reveal Violations Across North Alabama Restaurants

HUNTSVILLE, Ala.

Several restaurants around north Alabama had issues keeping up with their food labeling and dating policies. We saw multiple violations for old food or food without date marks in coolers all across the area this week.

The Marathon mini-mart on Greenhill Blvd. in Fort Payne has an 83 due to a chemical bottle stored near single-use items and mold in the ice machine.

Limestone County

The James mini-mart at Nuclear Plant Road and Lucas Ferry has an 81 this week due to month-old green beans in the cooler, along with peppers that were more than two weeks old. There was also banana pudding at the wrong temperature.

Madison County

Hopper’s Bar & Grill on University Drive has the lowest score in Madison County this week with an 81. Food inside the walk-in cooler was described as having “fuzzy green/white buildup”. It was past its 7-day holding mark and had to be tossed out.

Marshall County

The Guntersville Rec Center on Sunset Drive did not start its summer season off with a splash. Its most recent inspection came in with a 76 score after inspectors say they found multiple serious violations including rat droppings in the restrooms, no hot water in the restrooms, and bug spray stored with food.

There was also Windex and paint stored near food serving containers and cleaner stored next to sandwich bags.

Morgan County

The Marathon on Nanceford Road in Hartselle has a 77 this week, setting the low mark for Morgan County. It lost points for missing employee food safety paperwork, missing date marks on some foods, and cheeseburgers and chicken sandwiches at the wrong temperature.
