HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – New Huntsville Transit Center now expected to open in July
Huntsville bus riders will have to wait a little longer before they can step foot in the new transit center on Pratt Avenue. The new center located at the intersection of Pratt Avenue and Church Street was expected to open later this month. However, construction isn’t quite complete. Transit Manager John Autry says he’s now hoping to move in by July 16th, adding that date could change. He said they’re inching closer to the finish line, but there are still a lot of little things to do, such as landscaping and signage.
Autry said the biggest improvement this center will have is extra space. “The new transit center is bigger and safety,” Autry said. “For those existing riders, they know we’re pretty cramped over at the old location. It also gives us room to grow over the next 15 years to add bus routes and improve the amenities for the customers.” City leaders say the Huntsville Public Transit System currently serves about three thousand people a day. They expect that number to reach five thousand by 2029.
Enhanced Experience for Commuters
The new Huntsville Transit Center promises an enhanced experience for commuters in the area. With increased space and improved safety measures, passengers can look forward to a more comfortable and efficient transit experience. The additional space in the new center will not only address the current overcrowding issues but also allow for future expansion and enhanced services to meet the growing demands of the community.
